JCI Summer Day Camps for Kids is operated through the Penticton Community Centre for children aged 6-12 years. It runs Monday to Friday 9:00am-4:00pm throughout July and August each summer. The program aims to both assist working parents who need care for their children and to provide a fun and exciting experience for kids looking to do something different during their summer vacation. The summer day camp program has been operating for over 25 years and JCI Penticton has been proudly sponsoring this program since 1994.
Camp staff includes secondary and post-secondary school students who are super keen on working with kids and consistently demonstrate that they are the most creative, energetic and caring youth around – exactly the type of young leaders JCI Penticton wants to support. There is never a shortage of applicants for these sought-after positions and the retention rate for this excellent job opportunity is extremely high. When a child goes to JCI Summer Day Camp, he or she is greeted the first day and every day with a smile and a promise of the fun that lies ahead. The environment is safe and non-competitive and focuses on the diversity of the campers, ensuring each of them gets individual attention.
Daily activities include lots of indoor and outdoor games, sports, nature hikes, bike rides, canoeing, swimming in the pool and lakes, arts & crafts, singing, cooking projects and out trips around Penticton and the surrounding area. Each week has a special theme attached to it to make it even more fun for the kids, such as Survivor Week or Around the World, so you can add dressing up and acting silly to the list as well! Imagine the memories that come from tie-dyeing your own t-shirt or performing an air band with your new friends, trying canoeing for the first time or winning your first scavenger hunt. Campers spend each week challenging themselves to try new things and building positive relationships with their leaders and the other children in their group – lasting bonds and friendships that can be life changing, especially for the children who come from homes where they are not getting the emotional support they desperately need.
Every child deserves to laugh, play and make special memories during the summer, but unfortunately not every child gets that chance. Living with a limited income can make it difficult for parents to register their child for summer camp. JCI Penticton proudly supports this program with funds raised from events and projects like the annual Mr. Muscle Miss Bikini Contest so that as many children as possible have the chance to participate and experience the benefits of recreation through summer camp. Our donation helps to keep registration fees affordable while ensuring the campers get the best supplies, equipment and out trip options. JCI Penticton’s support also provides an opportunity to sponsor camp registrations for local families in need.
Thank you for your support of the 30th Annual Mr. Muscle Miss Bikini and other JCI Penticton events – feel good knowing the proceeds go directly back into worthwhile local projects like the JCI Summer Day Camps for Kids!
