Congratulations to the Newly Elected 2011 / 2012 Executive

With the end of a successful 2011 year drawing near, the Penticton JCI Membership filled the boardroom to capacity, electing a new executive to carry the torch for 2012.

As old business was tied up and current executives shared their experiences from the past year, nervous hopefuls listened and wondered where their place might be for the coming year.  Adding to the evening, Penticton City Council candidates Jason Cox (current JCI member) and Wes Hopkin took time out of their schedules to share a vision for the city as a whole.  The evening was a fantastic learning experience, and a well presented group of heartfelt speeches resulted in an inspired new executive board.

JCI Penticton teams up with WalMart for a successful Food Drive “Live”

Saturday, November 5th and Sunday, November 6th, 2011

… JCI Penticton is excited to announce that a 2 day partnership with WalMart Penticton on the last leg of their rigorous public food drive resulted in enormous success! Saturday, November 5th and Sunday, November 6th, volunteers from the JCI Organization represented their chapter in front of the store during the afternoon hours.  Shoppers were greeted with smiles, christmas carols and hugs, while they donated non-perishable food items and assorted donations to benefit the Salvation Army.

As a result of the effort, over 40 large boxes of food were accumulated, as well as over $500 in cash donation.  Newly elected JCI Penticton president Rylan Hernberg couldn’t have looked happier with the generosity of the community.  “Everyone is so willing to contribute more than we thought they could”, he elated while greeting a group of children and media, “Some families are donating full bags of shopping!”.

Over the past month, the Penticton Chapter of JCI International has been active in the Penticton community, collecting food to be donated as a group effort to the Salvation Army. Custom made boxes, which had been lovingly hand-painted last month by students from Holy Cross School, have been visible in more than 50 businesses in the community. Supporting businesses include Burger 55, Freak Sports Supplements, Cannery Brewing, Bayley’s BrewHaHa, Cue’s, Fibonacci, Par-T-Perfect and Phat Cat Cake Craft to name a few.

With the success of the Food Drive project fresh in their minds, the JCI Penticton membership looks forward to hosting the BC / Yukon region for the LOTS Training weekend, taking place at the Ramada in Penticton this weekend, November 11th through 13th.
